CC6 Manor Farm race details

Stubbington Green Runners and Netley Abbey Runners will be hosting CC6 #2 at Manor Farm Country Park on Sunday 13thOctober @ 09:30. Manor Farm is located just off Junction 8 of the M27 and signposted from the Motorway. The nearest postcode is SO31 1BH.

Route and Safety:

The route is approximately 4.3 miles long with a couple of hills. With the recent rain, the route is muddy in many places, so trail shoes are recommended. Please take care when running downhill especially. There will be a couple of quiet roads to cross which are marshalled, but there will be very few, if any, cars. There are also a couple of gates to negotiate. Any exposed tree roots and stumps will be marked where possible.

As ever, we expect parking to be tight, so please car share as much as possible. There will be no parking charges on the day, so there is no need to buy a parking ticket. Please do not park on the access road outside the Country Park entrance. Follow the road towards the Barnfield Car Park and Marshalls will direct you. Please follow the instructions of the Car Park marshals and be aware of traffic while walking along the road to the start area.

General Notes:

  • The start is 09:30 prompt.  Please allow time to arrive, park and get to the start.
  • We do not have exclusive access to the Country Park, which is popular with dog walkers, cyclists, and other users, so please be considerate to the local residents.
  • The Ladies and Gents toilets in Barnfield will be unlocked for the race.
  • The Start and Finish will be at the same point level with the hut in Barnfield.
  • The route is a mixture of grass, gravel paths, but mainly trails and bridleways, through fields and copses and along the river. Tree roots, ruts, large stones, low branches, posts, steps, gates, bridges and a couple of lovely hills (first at Mile 1 and a final one near the finish) will require you to watch your step around the course – please pay attention and listen to marshalls who will be at all important marking and warning points.
  • There will be water available at the end of the race however, in an effort to reduce our environmental impact, it has been decided not to provide cups so please bring your drink or reusable cup.

Our members are also providing cakes and treats so please help yourself post-race.

Please also take any litter home to keep the park clean.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Fleming Park race report and photo link

A glorious sunny morning greeted us for the first of the CC6 series at Fleming Park, as did an abundance of marshals and helpers from Eastleigh Running Club, Hedge End Running Club and Itchen Spitfires for which we are most grateful.

114 ladies and 127 men finished the 4.2 mile route around the park, the numbers being up on last year and the last runner crossed the finishing line within an hour.  Thank you all for running and we hope you enjoyed it.

There is nothing quite like a good slice of home baked cake after a race so a huge thank you also to the wonderful cake bakers.

We have a lady’s vest which was left at the gazebo which will be brought along to the next event if someone would like to claim it please.

Dave Nowik was there to capture the morning and his photos can be seen using the link below.

The course is approximately 4.2 miles in length which consists of three laps plus the start and finishing straight.  Please refer to the attached map.  The route is predominantly on grass with a few mud tracks which at the moment are dry.  Please watch out for rabbit holes and tree routes and adhere to any instructions given to you by our wonderful marshals.

The race will start promptly at 9.30am.

Street parking is available on the main roads such as Passfield Avenue and Chestnut Avenue, also parking is available as shown on the attached map.  Please car share wherever possible.  We also kindly request that you do not park in the adjacent roads to the Pavilion so as not to inconvenience the residents.

We do not have exclusive use of Fleming Park so please be considerate to other park users who will be out walking their dogs, collecting their Sunday newspapers or just out and about enjoying a quiet stroll!

There are no changing facilities at the location but there are limited toilet facilities external to the Pavilion which runners can use.  Runners are not permitted to use the internal toilets.

Cake and water will be available after the event, however we will not be supplying cups so please bring your own bottle. Should you require further sustenance, the Blackbird café at the Pavilion should be open after the race.

Race #7 Ashurst Campsite

An update for the next CC6 race at Ashurst Campsite for Sunday 17th February 2019 [Grid location: Grid Ref: SU 33188 09858 – see map].

This year’s course is based at the popular Ashurst Campsite off the main Ashurst to
Lyndhurst Road. Accessible from both directions. From the main entrance to the campsite you will be directed to park by our marshals on the day. Please follow their instructions and do not park on the grass or verges unless you are told otherwise (this is the first time at the venue and the Forestry Commission are very sensitive about this). As ever, please car share as much as possible as parking is limited.

The Start and Finish areas are located in the campsite near the main toilet block (NOT open on the day sorry).

The course is approximately 8km long (5miles) and is made up of approximately 60% gravel tracks, 30% muddy paths and 10% wooded sections. Currently the condition of the muddy tracks is generally quite good and run-able, but may change before the event if we get poor weather. Trail running shoes with a good grip are recommended. The course is not suitable for spikes.

The course map is attached for your information. The course heads out of the campsite, over the railway bridge and into Deerleap Enclosure. The course follows the gravel tracks and a muddy path to cross a footbridge and into Longdown Enclosure. Following a loop of that enclosure it retraces itself back to the campsite. The finish will be to the left of the start point.

There will be a refreshments area and the club tent area will directly in front of that, adjacent to the start point. Please bring your own re-usable cup if possible.

The race will start at 0930 prompt and will be fully marshalled and marked out. The usual
hazards apply!

Race #6 Kings Garn Gutter

An update for the next CC6 race at Kings Garn Gutter Inclosure for Sunday 20th January 2019 (see information and map).

The course is currently in good condition with some wet slippery muddy sections. There is a slight route change this year at the request of the Forestry Commission where the route to the finish is via the start area then up the concrete / gravel path to the finish area.

Parking near the race venue is in three areas known as (1) Janesmore Pond, (2) Stoney Cross Plain and (3) Stoney Cross. Then walking access to the race area via Longbeech campsite. There is to be no other parking, not on any of the road verges or in the public lay-by areas and do not park in or along the Longbeech road as this is for emergency vehicles access.

As ever, please car share as much as possible as parking is limited.

The race start area is a 10-15 mins walk from the parking areas and race start will be at 0930 prompt. Prior to race runners can meet up at the finish area location, there is then a further 5 mins walk to the start area. The start will commence strictly at 0930.

Race #5 Badger Farm

WADAC, Running Sisters and Southampton AC invite you to Race 5 of the CC6 race series at Badger Farm this Sunday 6th January, 9:30am start.

Directions: The race HQ and meeting area is on Whiteshute ridge at the orientation table (OS Grid Ref: SU465275), park at the Badger Farm Sainsburys (off Badger Farm Road), use the far end of the car park by the Community Centre and Friarsgate Surgery. We have notified the supermarket so you can park until 11am. Between the Community Centre and the rear of the supermarket are steps down, follow them which turns into a muddy trail up onto the ridge (5 minute walk). You will notice the ridge has been enclosed as there are cattle on the grassland. This won’t effect the course but it will restrict the access/exit routes onto the Ridge, so when you finish your race please be mindful of other runners still competing, when using the gates. The facilities at the Community Centre and Sainsburys/Starbucks are for patrons only.

Course: The course is around 5 miles long. There is a mixture of grass, mud, chalk, gravel and limited tarmac. We recommend trail shoes. The course starts with a loop on the ridge, a single long circuit behind Olivers Battery and finishing with another modified loop on the ridge, culminating with a climb to the finish. The course includes 2 kissing gates at the top of a short (but steep) wooded hill at the Compton Down end of the course. Expect the usual hazards of roots, uneven trails and low hanging branches.

Cows: We will be starting in an enclosed area which may have cattle on the day. The White British Cattle are friendly enough but be mindful of them. Our marshals will be at all the gates onto and off the enclosed fields, their job will be to make sure you are safe AND ensure the cows don’t try to leave their field.

Be aware that there may well be other members of the public using the area, dog walkers and horse riders etc. please show them courtesy.

Finally, while we will be supplying water at the end of the race, in order to reduce our environmental impact, we would encourage you to bring your own drink or reusable cup to the race.

Happy New Year!
